

When Kay confronts Jane in the real world, she asserts that she wishes Jane would die and had previously been eager to accept Shelley Byron’s offer to help Jane live a more independent life. To Kay’s mind, the alters - Jane included - have as much personhood as her childhood stuffed lamb. While they are a coping mechanism for her that has helped her to work through decades of trauma, she really just sees them as toys and tools that she wants to be able to put away when she is done with them. The depiction of Jane and the alters as puppets suggests that Kay doesn’t view the alters as real people or her equals. Harry, the toy lamb that Jane retrieved for Kay, is also a puppet and can now talk. When Jane appears in Kay’s subconscious, she finds that Kay has grown up to look like Jane (Diane Guerrero) while Jane and the alters of the Underground all now appear as puppets. However, Doom Patrol does not explain why Jane and her alters are shown as puppets in Kay’s mind.ĭoom Patrol season 3, episode 8 sees the beginning of The Sisterhood of Dada’s Eternal Flagellation, in which the Doom Patrol members switch places with their subconscious traumas and then must confront the secrets that they’ve been hiding from the others and themselves. Jane’s Doom Patrol season 3 plotline has centered on her and the alters trying to work out their new roles, as Kay comes out of her shell after the embodiment of her traumas is defeated.
